studio 0.00 / Artworks

The artworks of studio 0.00 look to nature, living things, light, shadow, and other ever-changing presences that are never the same twice.

Rather than reproducing them directly, the works translate them into different forms, creating structures through which new perspectives can emerge.

A prototype installation developed from the JELLYFISH DRAWSTRING POUCH by 0.1 (rei ten ichi). From the presence of jellyfish, a drawstring pouch is born. In the installation, the pouch drifts once again like a jellyfish in space, before returning to the palm of the hand as an everyday object. Moving back and forth between the moments before and after a product comes into being, this work explores the subtle fluctuations between material, form, and atmosphere. During the exhibition, special editions of the JELLYFISH DRAWSTRING POUCH were suspended in the space, while the standard editions were displayed and sold on the shelf.

Shadow

shadow

I began Shadow with a black mesh textile whose presence seemed almost like a shadow itself. When viewers illuminate it with their own smartphone flashlights, another shifting shadow appears on the surrounding surface. As the positions and distances between the light, textile, and viewer change, the projected image changes with them. Through this simple act of illumination, the work moves between material and immaterial, stable form and changing image. Each beam of light creates a temporary image that exists only in that moment, making every encounter with the work slightly different.

Rainbow

Rainbow

In Japan, rainbows are commonly described as having seven colors. I translate this familiar color order into seven translucent textile elements. Their softness and translucency allow the colors to form a single composition. Viewers can freely move and reorder the elements. Each arrangement remains until another viewer changes it, allowing the work to evolve throughout the exhibition. Even when rearranged, the elements may still appear as one composition yet cease to be recognized as a rainbow. Through this ongoing transformation, I ask what makes a rainbow a rainbow: the colors themselves, their sequence, or what we have learned to recognize.
